Lights, Camera, Action!

Lights, Camera, Action!

Welcome to ‘Our 1930s Fixer Upper’ – finally, our very own blog! If someone had said to us both 12 months ago that we would have our own website, then I would have laughed in their face and questioned their sanity. OK so we haven’t won an Oscar or Golden Globe, but we feel fortunate to be in the position we find ourselves in.

When we set up the Instagram account back in August 2016, it was so our friends and family could follow the progress of our house renovation. I remember hitting 300 followers after about 2 months thinking that was a big deal (well, it was 60 more followers than I had on my personal account). Little did I know within 16 months we would have 34,000 people following the both of us. Scary stuff. I mean, more people follow us than support my hometown football club… how could this have happened in such a short amount of time?

Instagram is a beautiful ‘little’ community of people with similar things in common. Whether it’s renovating your home, dressing the house seasonally or having a similar love for a certain Farrow and Ball paint colour, there is always something to discuss with each other. I spend more time on Instagram than I do anything else these days (yes that’s right Ian, I admit it) I just love the platform and all the people behind those tiny squares!

So why set up a blog you may ask? Well, good question, I suppose the main reason for its inception is so we can document the next phase’s of our renovation differently. Don’t get me wrong, Instagram is great but it does have some limitations, and by having this blog it will give Ian and I the opportunity to discuss our future projects in a lot more detail. With more and more people using Instagram as their go-to site for inspiration, we tend to get a lot of questions about where certain things are from, for example, the colour’s we’ve chosen on our walls or matters about the extension. This way we have an opportunity to provide more information and with ‘Shop Our Style’ it also means you can purchase the things we showcase in our home. I know, winning combination right!?

We have also decided that the blog isn’t just going to be about the renovation side of things, but instead include other aspects of our ‘home life’ such as food and music. Those of you who follow our stories on Instagram will know that we’re big lovers of both of these topics, so we felt it was only right to add these to the mix. I am sure the blog will naturally develop over time, and we will add or remove specific things as we see fit, but please do let us know if you have any ideas or if there is anything you would like us to discuss/blog about.

We will leave it there for now, but thank you for reading and do take a look around, things will be a little bare as its shiny new but expect more blogs in the coming weeks!

We can’t wait to show you what we have planned for 2018!

Ross and Ian! x
